MEET THE STAFF:
Greg Hocking BVSC, MRCVS - Veterinary Surgeon
(Practice Principal)
Greg graduated from the University of Pretoria (Onderstepoort) in South Africa in 1987.
After graduating, he worked at a small animal practice in Johannesburg, before moving to
Durban, & working there for 3 years. In 1995 he decided to move to the UK, &
after working as a long term locum for 2 practices in Middlesex, & Berkshire,
he purchased the Anwell Veterinary Centre in December 1998. Greg enjoys all aspects
of veterinary practice, but has a particular interest in surgery. He is married to
Melody, & has 2 children, David & Caitlyn. He enjoys most sports, but due
to lack of leisure time, & advancing years is now very much an armchair enthusiast.
Nicola Martinez BVSc, MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon
Nicola joined the Practice in November 2011. She graduated from Bristol University
in 2007 then worked both in private practice, & at the RSPCA in Bristol, before
moving to Cambridge for a year. She is interested in, & enjoys all aspects of
small animal practice. She has also done an acupuncture course, & is able to
offer this service to patients for various conditions, such as osteoarthritis.
She is married to Fernando, who is a specialist in veterinary anaesthesia, &
works at a local multidiscipline veterinary referral centre.
Melody Hocking
Practice Manager
Melody qualified as a veterinary nurse from Berkshire College of Agriculture in
1996. She was given the position as head nurse at a practice in Ashford, Middlesex
shortly afterwards, where she worked until 1999. In December of that year Greg and
Melody moved to Coulsdon, where they brought Anwell Veterinary Centre and she spent
many happy years helping to develop the nursing aspect of the practice. Her son
David was born in 2001 and daughter Caitlyn in 2003. When not at work she can be found
cheering on the sidelines while watching David play rugby and enjoying 'all
things girly' with Caitlyn. Her numerous pets at home take up whatever free time is
left over!.
Annette Courtman
Receptionist
Annette has been a receptionist / administrator since she left school. She joined
the Practice in May 2006, & has never looked back. She says she loves working
at the Practice, as it has a very warm, friendly atmosphere, & she has
developed a great rapport with many of our clients. She is married to David, &
has a son Steven, & a cute cuddly Bishon frise, called Magners (after the
cider drink!). She enjoys spending her spare time with her family, eating out,
& watching her son playing football (often embarrassing him by cheering
from the sidelines!).
Carol Washbourn
Receptionist
Carol grew up, & has lived in this area all her life, before moving to Hampshire
in 2000 to run her own business, which she had for 4 years. She then moved back to
Surrey, & joined the Practice as a Receptionist in June 2004. Carol really enjoys
horse riding, & has 3 horses of her own, which keep her very busy when she isn’t
at work. She also has an old Border Collie, Blenheim, & 3 cats.
Helen Edwards - Veterinary Nurse
(Head Nurse)
Helen is a qualified veterinary nurse with many years experience having worked at a
number of practices in Kent, & the London area. She has been Head Nurse at the Anwell
Veterinary Centre since March 2003, & is responsible for organising our nursing team.
Helen is particularly interested in nutrition, & enjoys running our ’weight
loss’ clinics, especially as overweight pets are becoming an increasing problem.
She lives with Dougie, an adorable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who
she ’inherited’ in March 2008.
Liz Edwards
Veterinary Nurse
Liz qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2005. She worked at the Anwell Veterinary Centre
from October 2008 until March 2010, when she decided to relocate to sunny Dorset. After
discovering that Dorset wasn’t so sunny after all, she returned to the Coulsdon
area, & couldn’t resist rejoining the Practice in October 2011. Liz has
a particular interest in animal behaviour, & organises our popular Puppy Parties.
Kerry Meade
Veterinary Nurse
Kerry initially joined the Anwell Veterinary Centre as a Trainee Nurse in January 2000,
& helped to develop the Practice to where it is today. She left us in November 2001,
& went to work at the Wingrave Veterinary Surgery, where she qualified as a Veterinary
Nurse in 2003. She then trained to become a Qualified Assessor, which enables her to
train student veterinary nurse, and assist them to achieve their nursing qualification.
Kerry then realised what she had been missing, & came back to work at the Anwell
Veterinary Centre in October 2012. She really enjoys doing Nurse Clinics, and has a
particular interest in theatre duties, & anaesthesia. She has 2 lovely cats, Poppy,
& Alfie, & a special horse - Sparkie Meade!
